Greetings ~

Elvis Presley! Even the name commanded attention. Whenever you said the name, Elvis, heads turned, women smiled. Elvis Presley today is known as one of the greatest entertainers in musical history. Dubbed "The King of Rock & Roll", Elivis played to sold-out houses everywhere that he went. His was the original rags-to-riches story.

Elvis died in 1977 and in 1979, his white 1973 Lincoln Limousine was featured at the Elvis Presley Week celebration at Chapel Hill Mall in Akron, Ohio. It cost a whooping 50c to get in so I dug down, deep in my pocket and came up with the cash and went in to check it out.

We were able to get up really close to the car so it was well worth the 50c. Years later I found photographs of Elvis in 1976 stopping one night at an accident scene in Memphis on his way home. He was driving the Lincoln. I found it so strange that in such a short time-span, so much could happen. Elvis stops at the accident in March 1976. Then one year later in 1977, he's dead. Then in August of 1979 we're looking at his limo on display. It really shows you what all can happen in such a short period of time.

Anyway, this blog features the photos of Elvis at the accident scene, other pictures and information about the car plus the photos of the display at Chapel Hill Mall in Akron, Ohio in 1979.

This was the ad that ran in the Akron Beacon Journal about the limousine display.
